Synopsis

The third movie version of Craig's Wife, this time filmed as a rip-roaring vehicle for Joan Crawford, who ably demonstrates on screen all those "qualities" so vividly documented in Mommie Dearest. Crawford as ever tends to chew the scenery to achieve effect, in contrast to the superb Rosalind Russell in the earlier talkie version. Nevertheless, the star breathes life into this hoary old chestnut about a woman more taken by her possessions than by her family, and makes the whole dated premise a mesmerising experience.
