Synopsis

There's a double helping of Edward G Robinson in this crime comedy as he plays the dual role of a gangster and a meek little clerk. The clerk is the spitting image of notorious hoodlum "Killer" Mannion, and mistakenly arrested. He's eventually released and issued with an identity card, so police won't confuse the two again - that is, until the real Mannion turns up and demands loan of the card. This is a rare pure comedy effort from John Ford, but with a script co-written by Frank Capra favourite Robert Riskin, there's also a certain Capra-esque element to it. With Jean Arthur co-starring alongside the marvellous Robinson, this is a hilarious comedy of mistaken identity.
