Synopsis

Alfred Hitchcock cast a long and large shadow, leaving many a director in debt to a master film-maker. But this remake of his 1935 classic thriller - some of the shots seem identical - is totally overwhelmed by the original. Kenneth More battles bravely to take on the role of Richard Hannay that Robert Donat made so very suavely his own, but succumbs to a bout of overplayed bravado. The Hitchcock impetus still pulses through some of the action, but director Ralph Thomas and writer Frank Harvey should have been ashamed.
