Synopsis

Jack Lemmon provides the extra bit of class that lifts this sudsy TV melodrama out of the ordinary. The veteran star plays a lonely widower, staying with his son and daughter-in-law, who gets a new lease of life when his friendship with feisty young Sarah Paulson leads to a chance encounter. After the predictable formulas of movies such as Grumpy Old Men, Lemmon relishes the chance of a juicier role and he is well accompanied by a cast that includes On the Town's Betty Garrett. Director Glenn Jordan, who was responsible for the superb Barbarians at the Gate, does his best to sidestep the more sugary moments.
