Synopsis

Lost for ideas in the early 1990s, Hollywood began rehashing old TV shows into movies. Some, such as The Addams Family, The Fugitive and Mission: Impossible, were huge box-office hits, but most seemed rather pointless. This transfer of the 1960s American series about oil-rich hicks falls into the latter category. Director Penelope Spheeris tries hard to put a modern edge on the nostalgia, but the members of the cast - including Dabney Coleman and Cloris Leachman, plus guest spots from Dolly Parton and Zsa Zsa Gabor - mainly mimic their predecessors. The picture would seem sufficient at 30 minutes, yet it drags on for much longer, and, for fans of the TV show, the only "highlight" will be the cameo from Buddy Ebsen, star of the original.
