Synopsis

The bland title does no favours to this better-than-average teen movie. Ben Foster plays a teenager who's dumped by his longtime girlfriend and then signs up to join her in the school's musical version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in an attempt to win her back. He's aided and abetted by his best friend's younger sister - as she's played by the drop-dead gorgeous Kirsten Dunst, there are no prizes for guessing that maybe young Ben is making moon-eyes in the wrong direction. The daft thing is that it takes him the whole film to realise it. Smartly written and sassily acted, the film wisely avoids drawing too many parallels between its unrequited love theme and that of Shakespeare's play. And, as a bonus, there's an inappropriate but entertaining cameo from Martin Short as the play's campily neurotic producer.
